International Standard Organization(ISO) categorizes terminals by their characteristics - Basic, Form, Image, and Graphic Class[18]. Currently, ISO is standardizing Basic Class virtual terminal protocol and the draft proposal was presented. The Basic Class terminal consists of line mode, scroll mode and page mode terminal.
This thesis describes the way to implement Basic Class virtual terminal protocol under Unix environment. We defined the data structure and message structure of the virtual terminal protocol, and mapping functions between real terminal as well as virtual terminal. We modified the login program to allow application programs to use the virtual teminal.
