When building an expert system on a certain application area, we can construct it easily by means of proper building tools.
In this thesis, the enhancement to HAPS2 and its applications to the construction of a Design Information System are described. HAPS2, a rule-based expert system building tool, is enhanced in order to provide more powerful tools by adding a user interface and enhancing the rule binding scheme. The extended HAPS2 is applied to the construction of a prototype Design Information System in the area of Local Area Network configuration, and is verified to be an effective tool in building an expert system.
