Economic optimum cutting conditions, one of the most important basic data in metal-cutting, are calculated using Cutting rate-Tool life Function (R-T-F) theory, according to which the optimum cutting conditions life on the R-T characteristic curve.
In the paper the R-T-F for an end mill process of 3 cutting-variables is derived and the optimum cutting condition is obtained using the derived, where the 3 cutting variables are cutting speed, feed and depth of cut, and second order tool life equation (in logarithmic terms) is used.
The whole procedure to obtain the optimum cutting condition is programmed by computer.
The results show that R-T-F methods is more effective than conventional methods. By the variable transformation, all the variables are transformed into R,T 2 variables. As optimization of 2 variables is more easy and rapid than 3 or more variables.
