With vast amounts of data being generated in the field of digital cultural heritage, extensive studies have been conducted on how to utilize such data and provide related services. One challenge in providing cultural heritage information is enabling users to experience content in a meaningful and coherent manner. Institutions specializing in digital heritage information services are more focused on the provision of information, and fall short of user expectations due to a lack of support in information access and browsing. Historical site information is especially heterogeneous and exhibits difficulty in such management and service. Against this backdrop, this study proposes the development of a semantic structure. First, key relations to support access and interpretation of historical site information were identified based on an analysis of the information characteristics of historical sites. Second, using the Achasan Koguryo Historical Site as a case study, the Korea Cultural Heritage Data Model (KCHDM) was applied to model the relations through a two-way approach of top-level mapping and bottom-level mapping. Third, a knowledge-based platform prototype was constructed as one way of visualizing the semantic structure, and a user test of the platform was conducted in order to understand how users experience the semantic path. The significance of this study lies in suggesting a semantic structure for the management and service of heterogeneous historical site information, which field has been largely neglected in research and in implementing KCHDM for actual historical site information applicable to the existing database.
역사유적 정보는 이종적 특성으로 관리에 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 그 결과 유적지를 통합적으로 이해하는데 필요한 정보가 각 기관에서 분산되어 제공되고 있어 사용자의 정보 탐색 및 해석 요구를 충족시켜주지 못하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이를 해결하기 위하여 한국문화유산데이터모델(KCHDM)을 기반으로 한 역사유적정보의 시맨틱 구조 구축 방안을 연구하였다. 이를 위해 첫째, 역사유적정보의 특성과 유적지 해석에 있어 중요한 관계를 파악하였다. 둘째, 그러한 관계를 KCHDM을 통해 어떻게 모델링 할 것인지 보았으며, 도메인 전문가의 참여를 통한 상위단계 맵핑과 정보 제공 DB에 적용하는 하위단계 맵핑의 두 단계 접근을 적용하였다. 셋째, 시맨틱 구조를 적용한 아차산 고구려 유적 지식 플랫폼의 프로토타입 구축 및 평가를 통해 추후 역사유적정보의 시맨틱 기반 서비스를 제공하고자 할 때 고려할 점들을 파악하였다. 이 연구는 시맨틱 구조 적용에 있어 기관 소장품 중심으로 연구되어 상대적으로 연구가 부족했던 유적지 정보를 대상으로, 구축되어 있는 데이터의 재사용을 가능하게 하는 정보 관리 및 서비스 기반을 마련하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
