This study examines the media coverage and user perception of the A.I. and humanoid robot technology in Korea and Japan. It compares the framing seen in news coverage related to the A.I. and humanoid robots in Korean and Japanese major newspapers, and uses an expanded technology acceptance model to examine acceptance attitude, recognized usefulness, recognized convenience, recognized playfulness, and intent to use with respect to the use of media and the type of media used.
The results showed differences between Korean and Japanese press in the quantity of coverage, reporting attitude, and news framing. In the case of reporting attitude, Korean news tended to be neutral, whereas a large portion of Japanese news exhibited positive attitude. The news contents were analysed by 5 types news framing found in Korean and Japanese newspapers. The “human interest” frame was emphasized in both countries, but the “industrial interest” frame and the “social conflict” frame stood out respectively in Japan and Korea. Moreover, differences in news framing and tone between liberal and conservative newspapers, and between business and general daily newspapers were identified in both countries. To examine user perception of the A.I. and humanoid robots, this study looked at how the rate of involvement in an issue, rate of interest, and type of medium used were related to the article acceptance attitude, recognized usefulness, recognized convenience, recognized playfulness, and intent to use. The results showed: 1) There was a high correlation between the rate of involvement in an issue and the article acceptance attitude in both countries. 2) In Korea, the factors influencing the intent to use were found to be recognized usefulness, easiness, and playfulness, and industrial interest among the technology acceptance attitude, while in Japan recognized convenience was found to be an influential factor on the personal belief in technology acceptance, in addition to social conflict attitude exerting positive influence, and scientific progress attitude, negative influence, among technology acceptance attitude.
Through an analysis of media’s reporting attitude and user perception of the A.I. and humanoid robots, this study provides a useful examination of differences in social perception of high-end technology acceptance across borders.
본 연구는 인공지능과 휴머노이드 로봇기술에 대한 한, 일 양국의 미디어 보도태도와 수용자 인식에 관한 연구다. 한국과 일본의 주요 신문들이 보도한 인공지능과 휴머노이드 로봇 관련 뉴스에 나타난 보도 프레임의 차이를 비교하고, 확장된 기술 수용모델을 이용해 미디어 이용과 이용 매체에 따른 기술 수용태도, 인지된 유용성, 인지된 편의성, 인지된 유희성, 사용의도를 조사했다.
연구결과 한국과 일본 언론은 보도량, 보도태도와 보도 프레임에서 차이를 보였다. 보도태도에서는 한국의 경우, 중립적인 보도태도가 많은데 반해, 일본의 경우는 긍정적인 태도가 많았다. 보도내용과 관련해 한·일 신문에서 추출한 5가지 보도 프레임으로 분석해 보았다. 양국 모두 ‘인간적 흥미’ 프레임이 강조되었고, 나머지 프레임에서는 일본은 ‘산업적 이해’ 프레임, 한국은 ‘사회적 갈등’ 프레임이 부각되었다. 또한 한, 일 양국에서 진보지와 보수지, 경제지와 종합일간지에 따른 보도프레임과 보도논조의 차이를 확인할 수 있었다.
인공지능과 휴머노이드 로봇에 대한 수용자 인식조사에서는 이슈관여도, 관심도, 뉴스 이용 매체에 따른 기술 수용태도, 인지된 유용성, 인지된 편의성, 인지된 유희성과 사용의도와의 연관성을 조사하였다. 연구결과 1) 한국과 일본 모두 이슈관여도와 기술 수용태도에서 높은 연관성을 나타냈다. 2) 사용의도에 영향을 미치는 변인으로는 한국의 경우 인지된 유용성과 용이성, 유희성이, 기술 수용태도 중 ‘산업적 이해’가 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 일본의 경우는 인지된 용이성이 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 드러났다. 기술 수용태도 중에서 ‘사회적 갈등’은 정(+), ‘과학적 진보’는 부(-)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
이 연구는 인공지능 및 휴머노이드 로봇에 대한 미디어의 보도태도와 이에 대한 수용자 인식을 살펴봄으로써 첨단기술 수용에 대한 국가 간, 사회적 인식의 차이를 살펴볼 수 있다는데 의의가 있다.
