This study is a quantitative analysis of South Korea’s global competitiveness of the platform business, shedding light on how the platform industry itself, as well as socio-political problems and policies can be improved. The study was conducted using Michael Porter’s ‘diamond model’ which was enhanced then applied to measure the overall competitiveness of the domestic business environment. In addition, 104 people in the field of ICT were surveyed on the five platform businesses in South Korea.
According to the diamond model, the business environment of the platform business in Korea
scores 64 out of a 100 when American standards are applied. Survey results conveyed that the domestic platform business lacks creative capacity, momentum to produce new values, ability to reduce costs, and lacks network effectiveness. Overall, the domestic platform business remains stationary.
In order to gain global competitiveness, the platform business must target the global market
by investing in developing innovative technology, focus on fostering a culture that emphasizes common interests, and improve the legal system to a match global standards.
본 연구는 국내 플랫폼비즈니스의 경쟁력 수준을 계량적으로 분석하여 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖추기 위해서 기업 자체는 물론 사회문화적 또 정책적으로 보완할 점이 무엇인지를 분석하였다. 마이클 포터의 다이아몬드 보델을 발전시켜 일반화한 더블다이아몬드모델을 적용해 플랫폼 비즈니스가 기반한 환경의 경쟁력을 측정하였다. 더불어 국내 ICT 분야 종사자 104명을 대상으로 5개 플랫폼 비즈니스에 대한 경쟁력을 설문조사했다.
연구 결과 더블다이아몬드보델에 입각한 국내 플랫폼비지니스 환경의 경쟁력 수준은 미국을 100으로 가정했을 때 64 정도에 그치는 것으로 분석됐다. ICT 종사자를 대상으로 한 설문조사 결과 국내 플랫폼비지니스는 미국의 비즈니스에 비해 창조역량과 새로운 가치 창출, 비용 절감과 네트워크 효과, 새로운 생태계를 조성, 끊임없이 변화하고 진화하는 역량이 열세인 것으로 나타났다.
한국 플랫폼비지니스가 이같은 열세를 딛고 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖추기 위해서는 초기 단계부터 글로벌 시장을 공략할 핵심기술 개발 전략을 취하고, 사회문화적으로는 경쟁과 갑을관계 문화를 공동의 이익을 추구하는 공생문화로 변혁하고, 정부의 법체계를 글로벌 수준의 합리성과 개방성을 갖출 수 있게 개선해야 할 것으로 분석됐다.
