Depending on a patient’s disease, the pathogenesis or treatment has various and complex mechanism. Therefore, Medias dealing with medical or health information required to multi- angular verification and/or analyzation of the information.
Intent of present study was to identify the internal and external factors that affect for medical program producers and writers to information selection process under a specialized organization such as a broad casting system. From a view point of News value and framing theory, revealed how production team directly or indirectly affect to the information selection.
To achieve the intent of present study as a qualitative research, contents analysis and depth interview were conducted focused on the MBC < Medical Story Doctors> and <100 years old Health Doctors>. The interviewee consisted of 2 producer and 6 TV writers. In addition to the qualitative interviews, additional data were gathered through participant observation that widely used methodology in ethnography and worked as a writer to these programs for many years.
Results revealed that the most intensive internal factor for production team’s information selection was ratings Even though, while producing, the production team perceived the importance of delivery of beneficial information, tended to select an information that intriguing viewer’s interest. The level of perception that the production team considered the viewer’s interest was different from types of the program. The external factors that impact on the production team’s information selection revealed that ruling Chief producer’s direction sponsored production.
이 연구의 목적은 방송국이라는 특수한 조직 하에서 의학 프로그램을 담당하는 제작진의 정보 선택에 영향을 주는 내외적 요인이 무엇인지 파악하는 것이다. 뉴스가치(news value)와 프레이밍(framing)의 관점에서 제작진의 정보 선택이 프로그램에 직,간접적으로 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지를 밝혔다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 MBC <메디컬 스토리 닥터스>와 <백세 건강 닥터스>를 사례연구 대상으로 방송 내용을 분석하고 해당 프로그램 제작자인 피디 2명과 구성작가 6명을 심층면접했다. 본 연구는 다년간 구성작가로 활동한 연구자가 민족지학적(ethnography) 연구 방법으로 해당 프로그램의 생산 과정에 작가로 참여해 관찰했다.
연구 결과, 제작진의 정보 선택에 가장 큰 영향을 미친 내적 요인은 시청률이었다. 제작진은 의학 프로그램 제작시, 유익한 정보를 정확하게 전달하는 역할의 중요성을 인식하면서도 제작 수행에 있어서는 시청자를 의식한 흥미 위주의 정보를 선택하는 경향을 보였다. 시청자의 흥미를 고려하는 제작진의 의식 정도는 프로그램의 유형에 따라 차이를 보였다. 제작진의 정보선택에 영향을 미치는 외적 요인은 프로그램 책임자인 CP의 지시와 협찬에 따른 제작 요청이었다.
