The rate equations are solved analytically to investigate dynamic effects of the spontaneous emission factor, gain saturation, and the photon life-time on the small signal response.
For large signal response, the nonlinear rate equations are solved analytically in a manner of W. Harth, the effects of the spontaneous emission factor and the photon life-time on the primary resonance and first subharmonic generation which is the onset of the period-doubling route to chaos are studied.
Parameters in rate equations are extracted for the Hitachi CSP (Channeled Substrate Planner) type laser. By the large signal modulation, the resonance frequency shift to lower frequencies as predicted in theory are observed and optical pulses shorter than 100 psec with 1 GHz repetition rates are generated.
