PERD is constructed on the top of C-prolog running on the VAX11/780 UNIX.
It is an experimental vehicle to demonstrate the feasibility of RM/T which is one of the semantic data model and to apply the new concepts from the expert system and AI areas to the relational database system for knowledge base applications.
The main ideas of this thesis are the embedding of the executable code into the system catalogs for triggering and the realizations of the atomic semantics by the surrogate concept and the molecular semantics by the categorizations of the objects in DB.
PERD 시스템은 VAX-11/780 UNIX OS 에서 시행되는 C-prolog 언어로 구현되었으며, 특히 의미파악의 관점에서 기존의 시스템과 비교할때, 보다 강화된 데이타베이스 관리시스템을 형성하며, 지식에 기반을 둔 데이타베이스 관리시스템을 구축하기 위해 AI 와 Expert system 영역에서 몇가지 새로운 개념을 도입하였다.
프롤로그는 많은 양의 자료를 다루는 데 있어서는 비효율적이지만 의미파악을 위한 다양한 규칙과 AI의 추론을 위한 지식 표현방식은 쉽게 구현될 수 있으므로 PERD 시스템을 구현하는 언어로 선택 하였다.
본 논문의 주된 착상은 실행가능한 코드를 시스템 카탈로그의 자료구조안에 포함시켜 연쇄작용을 실현한 것과 surrogate 에 의한 atomic 의미파악, 형 계층분류에 의한 molecular 의미파악의 실현으로 집약 된다.
