In many countries, there are needs to support multiple languages for computer based message systems with translation capabilities. For example, a message system which supports English and Korean is needed.
In order to support communication between terminals with different character sets some facilities for notification and translation of incoming messages are necessary. In the network environment, these requirements are essential.
In this thesis, a message handling system with the limited translation capability which satisfies the above requirements has been implemented. The methodolgy, its results, and the analysis have been presented.
The main discussion is on English and Korean, but the principle can be extended to other combinations with minor modifications. The message handling system for English and Korean has been designed and implemented on the 4.1BSD mail system.
