A potential flow calculation method for the flow about a body of revolution at incidence has been developed. The method is capable of predicting the effect of open separation through modelling the rolled up vortices by discrete line vortices. Each line vortex is shed from the prescribed open separation line and is allowed to move freely with the flow to infinity.
It's an iterative procedure between the line vortices and the distribution of velocity potential on the body surface. The positions of line vortices are updated after each calculation of surface potential distribution and, thus, the interaction between them is properly taken care of.
The result is compared with the experiment and it shows a considerable improvement over the attached flow solution.
