During liquid phase sintering of W-Ni-Fe alloys, whole processes were examined in terms of microstructural changes. Analyzing the microstructural changes occurred during heating up, the initial conditions of liquid phase sintering were understood. From the microstructural changes and relative sintered density, it was found that liquid phase sintering is a continuous process, and that the initial rapid densification was occurred at solid state during heating up and affected seriously by initial particle size. According to pore morphology, liquid phase sintering phenomenon can be devided into three stages such as 'a solid state sintering stage', 'a liquid phase sintering stage', and 'a transient stage' between the two previous stages.
