This paper describes a real-time simulator for the electro locomotive driven by DC series motors.
In the control of a large scale system, a real-time simulator provides many advantages; in particular, controller tuning and debugging are made much easier without any field test.
The real-time simulator designed in this study is based on two Z-80A's and is to simulate an electro locomotive with for series motors.
Its input variables are the SCR firing delay angle α, which is generated by the controller, the weight of the train Wt, the mechanical brake force $B_f$, the gradient of the rail Gr, and the armature currents Ia, the velocity of the locomotive V, and the field currents $I_f$.
All numeric-processings are carried out through 16 bit fixed point operation. Experimental results show satisfactory operation of the simulator under various external conditions.
