In this thesis, a Multi-Ring Daisy Chain(MRDC) has been proposed and implemented. MRDC consists of multiple ring units each of which has many Ring Interface processors(RIP). Throughout and reliability are improved by the division of a daisy-chain loop into MRDC's. MRDC shows much better throughput when the message transmission characteristics shows locality. Routing algorithm that is adaptable to MRDC is described. The function and the structure of a ring interface processor are described. A RIP has been designed and implemented on Cromemco Z-2H. A new system, MRDC network system, which uses Cromemco Z-2D and Z-2H as RIP's and VAX 11/780 as a host is implemented. This work can be regarded to layer 1, layer 2, and layer 3 of open system interconnection reference model of international standard organization.
