An interactive method is proposed for the solution of two dimensional rectangular cavity flow. The flow field of this model is divided into two regions, with an appropriate mathematical model for each region.
The shear layer is computed by incompressible laminar boundary layer equation and the recirculation region by Navier-Stokes equation.
The flow field is solved iteratively by matching the local solutions in the two regions.
The comparison of computed results of wall pressure and velocity profile with those of experimental data was good for the cases of cavities of moderate aspect ratios (H/b).
The downward dislocations of points of separation and reattachment and velocity distributions along the straight line connecting the corners are found by analysis.
