The correlation between weight concentration of soot and flame structure which are temperature and chemical species concentration distribution and the distribution and the distribution of soot concentration in the propane-air turbulent round jet diffusion flame were studied.
Measurement of gas temperature, species concentration, mean velocity and soot concentration distribution in round fuel jet flame were carried out. The weight concentration of soot were measured by using soot sampling probe.
The following is results of this study.
The formation of soot is dominant in the region of high concentration of intermediate chemical species which were formed from fuel pyrolysis in the upstream, and the combustion of soot is dominant in the region of high temperature and concentration of oxygen in the downstream of flame. The formation of soot is correlated with temperature but it must be considered that the formation of soot depends concurrently on the concentration of unburned fuel and intermediate chemical species which was formed from fuel pyrolysis.
In downstream, concentration of soot and that of carbon mono-oxide have close correlation.
