An experimental study was conducted to investigate the producible conditions of pultrusion process. A pultrusion facility developed for this study. Specimens of glass fiber reinforced plastic were made in various processing conditions such as volume fractions, die temperatures, and Zn-stearate percentages. Their mechanical were compared.
The pultruded specimens can be obtained in the condition that the die peak temperature is above 120℃, pulling speed 40 cm/min, and die length 170 cm.
Flexural bend test for strength and modulus, short beam shear test for interlaminar shear strength, and tensile test were conducted. Both flexural strength and modulus increase with the increase of volume fraction, and shear strength increases in 130℃-165℃ with the increase of die peak temperature.
Zn-stearate is useful to reduce the pulling force, but it also reduces the interlaminar shear strength of product. Hence 1-2% of Zn-stearte is recommended.
