In resistance spot welding, the process variables such as electrode force, welding current, hold time, weld time and squeeze time influence welding qualities. The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the effects of the process variables on weld qualities. An electrical strain gage was used to determine the electrode force and the welding current was determined by calculation, knowing transformer turns ratio and the primary current which was detected by the current transformer. Welding qualities were assessed by means of tensile shear, crosstension static test.
The results showed that the dominant process variables were found to be electrode force, welding current and weld time. Also they suggested that minimum welding process time which assured the sufficient welding qualities could be determined.
