All phases of project engineering for research and development for PAN process, which applies solution polymerization and wet spinning, has been executed through operation of the Pilot Process of 0.0192 Ton/Day capacity. The solvent preparation and polymerization section have been operated to obtain operating data. Polymerization reaction was performed with special-made agitator in order to improve mixing condition. In the spinning process, fibre could not be subjected to adquate cold and hot stretching due to complex factors. Overall operation results were well utilized to develop the applicable data for scale up. From the economic evaluation based on Jan. 1, 1979, this process was considered to be fiarly feasible one with ROI of 23% above two trains based on unit train concept induced into economic size for scale-up. The unit train was decided as capacity of 5.08 PAN-Ton/Day.
