The study is concerned with a prediction of roll separating force which is important in designing ring rolling mills.
The concept of using matrix operators in the construction of slip line fields for linear boundary value problem is briefly introduced. Then a simple theoretical model, based on the plane strain slip line field solution for the rolling process, is applied to the estimation of roll separating force in the constrained ring rolling process.
Measurements of roll separating forces, taken during ring rolling experiments, are shown to be in reasonable agreement with the theoretical prediction in the range of ordinary feed rate.
