The solution of Dugdale type yield model of a slant crack is obtained. For this purpose the problem of a slant and kinked crack consisting of a slant main crack and two straight kinked cracks starting at the main crack tips in an infinite elastic sheet is considered. Kinked direction is taken from the Sih's maximum hoop stress theory for the direction of the linear elastic crack propagation. Representation of stress function by complex variables in the spirit of Muskhelishvili is employed, and the stress function is approximated by a polynomial.
The stress intensity factor at the tip is computed for two cases : (1) the crack subjected to uniform stress at infinity, (2) the crack subjected to yield stress confined in its kinked portion. From the above results Dugdale type yield model of a slant crack is explored for various slant angles and applied stress.
