In these days, there are numerous types of electronic devices in everywhere. Especially, display devic-es are work as a UI interface between people and electronic devices. Hence the needs for future display is increasing rapidly. Among them, the flexible display get interesting from a design perspective. Many re-searches were in progressing and revealed that the organic light emitting diode (OLED) is most attractive dis-play device for flexible display. Although OLEDs have many merits for flexible display, OLEDs have power-ful drawback for using as a display device. OLEDs are very sensitive for water and oxygen so it can be de-graded when exposure to external environment. Accordingly the development for encapsulation is essential for using OLEDs as a display device. For this purpose, there have been many studies on enhancing lifetime of OLEDs.
This work investigates the encapsulation of Flexible OLEDs (FOLEDs) in order to extend their life-times. For protection aim, thin-film encapsulation (TFE) is used for permeation barriers. Barriers are com-posed of nanolaminate layer and organic layer. The nanolaminate layer is made via atomic layer doposition (ALD) with Al2O3 and ZnO. It is known that ALD layer has great barrier performance but, thus far, still unreli-able barriers. Using inorganic layer with low temperature ALD for flexible display, the defect may still exist in barrier. For filling purpose, organic layer is deposit on the nanolaminate layer. The organic layer is made by spin-coating and UV-curing which has short fabrication time. Within this method, 2.5 dyads hybrid multi-barrier can be fabricated. This hybrid multi-barrier has WVTR of 1.91 X 10-5 g/m2/day which acceptable for OLEDs. Furthermore it can durable for bending stress with 3cm bending radius. Not only just barrier but also test device with hybrid multi-barrier is stand with bending stress and operating over 25 days at 30°C, 90% R.H. environment.
