Elliptic curves have long rich history and also wide range of applications. For example, these are used in the factorization of large integers, the primality testing, public key cryptography, and most famously the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. The first chapter provides the short history of elliptic curves.
In 1949, Andre Weil made a series of very general conjectures concerning the number of points on varieties defined over finite fields. To prove Weil conjectures for the cases of projective lines and projective spaces are immediate. The first non-trivial cases of the Weil conjectures are elliptic curves. In this paper, I will introduce some basic concepts of elliptic curves and the proof of Weil conjectures for elliptic curves.
