Majority of recent mobile games are confined in terms of their input and feedback modality by only employing functionalities of a single mobile device. It thus limits interaction between players in a same place, as the game play isolates the players’ attention for their own devices. To overcome this isolated gameplay in collocated situation, I have designed and implemented a collaborative in-situ mobile multiplayer game, featuring combined input and feedback modality by employing multiple collocated mobile devices. Through multiple stages of game play test, I have observed how the sample game fosters social interaction between players, and then discussed essential design considerations for such mobile games to facilitate collaborative interactions in game play. The major considerations include active disclosure of game play status of a user currently playing the game, which facilitates intervention of spectators, as well as social acceptability of game play for public spaces.
최근 개발되는 대부분의 모바일 게임은 단일 모바일 기기가 제공할 수 있는 입력 및 피드백 모달리티 한도 안에서 게임 플레이가 진행된다. 이는 같은 공간에 있는 사람 끼리도 인터랙션이 잘 일어나지 않도록 제한하고, 각자의 관심을 자신의 모바일 기기 범위 안으로 고립시켜버린다. 본 연구에선 이러한 모임 상황에서의 고립된 게임 플레이를 극복하기 위해, 여러 사용자의 모바일 기기를 조합하여 플레이하는 방식의 모바일 멀티플레이어 게임을 디자인하고, 그 예시 어플리케이션을 제작하였다. 또한 제작된 예시 어플리케이션을 사용한 여러번의 게임 플레이 테스트 분석 결과로부터 1)게임 참여자의 게임 플레이 의도 파악 및 정보 접근 용이성, 2)다른 참여자의 게임 플레이에 대한 개입, 3)공개된 장소에서의 모션 기반 게임 플레이 시 사회적 수용 여부 등을 포함한 디자인 요소들과, 플레이어 간 상호 협력적 인터랙션 패턴에 미치는 영향에 관해 논하였다.
