The effect of $TiO_2$ addition on the sinterability and temperature dependence of electromechanical coupling factor, k, was investigated. The compositions of test specimens were expressed by $\underline{[(NiO)_{0.82}(CuO)_{0.16}(CoO)_{0.02}Fe_2O_3]_{1-χ}(TiO_2)_χ}$ and $\underline{[(NiO)_{0.82}(CuO)_{0.16}(CoO)_{0.02}Fe_2O_3]_{1-y}(Fe_2TiO_4)_y}$, and the values of x or y were seledted to vary from 0 to 0.05.
Test specimens of each composition were sintered at 1100℃, 1150℃, 1200℃ and 1250℃ for 2 hours. Some specimens were also sintered at 1300^℃ for 2 hours.
The density of specimens was slightly increased by 2.0 mole% addition of $TiO_2$ of $Fe_2TiO_4$, but was decreased by 5.0 mole% addition of $TiO_2$ or $Fe_2TiO_4$. The optimum sintering temperature was 1200℃.
As the content of $TiO_2$ or $Fe_2TiO_4$ increased, the magneto crystalline anisotropy compensation temperature, Tcom also increased. Substitution of two $Fe^{3+}$ ions by $Ti^{4+}+FE^{2+}$ ions on octahedral sites in the spinel lattice yield positive first order magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant. The anisotropy compensation temperature shift in the presence of $Fe^{2+} + Ti^{4+}$, however, was less pronounced than in the case of $Co^{2+}$ substitution, because the value of $K_1$ of $Fe^{2+}$ was less positive than that of $Co^{2+}$.
The optimum DC bias was 5 Oe. The mechanical quality factor. Q of resonance was extremly large in every specimen, and the values of Q were generally in the 1,000 - 4,000 range.
The maximum electromechanical coupling factor, kmax, was closely related to the density of specimens. The low porosity minimized the internal shape anisotropy caused by the presence of non-spherical pores. So the valves of kmax were increased with increasing density.
