This study is to search for the optimal capital structure of corporations in Korea by applying the state-preference model and mean-variance model, which introduce additional bankruptcy cost and tax benefit of interest payment to the basic M-M theory.
The probability distribution is assumed to be both subjective and objective. In calculating objective probability distribution, total asset value minus after-tax-profit is used as investment and total asset plus tax plus interest payment is used as return. After calculating the expected value and variance of investment by regression and adjusting method, they are used as two parameters of normal distribution. In the estimation of bankruptcy cost, bankrupt law and the habit of bank in case of default is considered.
Conclusions are as follows:
In a view of maximization of corporate value, the excess of debt of corporations in Korea is appropriate if prosperity will be continued.
It will be necessary that debt ratio be reduced to 60 - 70% level in order to maximize corporate value in the long run for adapting economic changes.
본 논문은 우리나라 기업의 자본구성에 대한 분석을 목적으로 Modigliani-Miller의 이론을 기본으로 하여 파산비용 및 이자의 손금산입에 의한 세금혜택을 도입한 상태선호모델 ( State -Preference Model ) 및 평균분산모델 ( Mean - Variance Model )을 우리나라 기업에 적용하여 기업가치 극대화를 위한 최적자본구성을 구하려 하는 것이다.
파산비용의 산정에 있어서는 파산법 및 회사조정법과 대출기관인 은행의 관행을 따랐다.
적용에 있어서 기업수익의 확률분포에 대한 반정으로 객관적 입장, 완전경쟁의 경우에 대하여 분석하여 각각에 대한 현실적인 해석을 찾아보려 했다.
분석결과 근래의 호황이 지속된다는 판정하에서는 우리나라의 자본구성의 타인자본과중현상은 기업가치 극대화라는 관점에서 타당성을 찾을 수 있다고 본다 그러나 경기변화에 대응하기 위하여는 장기적으로 타인자본비율을 60 ~ 70 % 수준으로 내리는 것이 기업가치 극대화에 필요하다.
우리나라 자본시장의 불완전성을 직접 모델에 도입하지는 않았으나 분석전에 주의사항으로 설명하였다.
