Two kinds of colour measurement apparatus using metameric colour matching are developed. The first apparatus uses three large aperture (3cm in diameter) narrow band-pass interference filters (FWHF 10mm) and the other uses three broad band pass gelatin filters. The former is found, though theroetically precise, lacking in reproducibility in the measurement and requiring too much labor in operation of the unit. The latter, the Burnham type colorimeter with double light integrating rods, is found easier in construction and operation and gives reproducible values in measurement. The test specimens adopted are three glass filters (Red, Green, Blue). Their CIE colour coordinates are measured in the Burnham type colorimeter and it is found the colour coordinates agree within 5% for the red filter, 15% for green filter and 12% for the blue filter.
The performances of photographic colour films - KODAK (ektachrome ASA 64) and Fuji (Fujichrome ASA 100) - are investigated. Fuji film gives the color of which CIE colour coordinates tend to shift more to blue than those of the colour KODAK film gives. The two metameric colour matching apparatus designed and constructed in the present work are found to give accurate enough colour measurement and colour temperature measurement in practice, but they can be refined further for any professional work.
