The effect of iron(1-6%) and aluminum (6-7.5%) addition in titanium on hydrogen diffusion was studied in the temperature range of 661-1080℃ at 4-200 torr hydrogen pressure.
Diffusion coefficient of hydrogen and activation energy for diffusion were determined from the increment of weight during the reaction by thermogravimetric method.
The result from the relationship between weight gain and reaction time indicated that hydrogen diffusion was the rate controlling step in the reaction with pure Ti, Ti-Fe alloy and Ti-Al alloy.
The result also indicated that added alloying element had increased the activation energy for hydrogen diffusion; the obtainable result showed that the increase was almost linear in Ti-Fe system.
Diffusion coefficient of hydrogen and activation energy for diffusion in beta Ti-6% Fe alloy and in beta Ti-6% Al alloy were almost simillar values.
