For the investigation of the deformation mechanism of primary creep, commercially pure aluminum(99.8w/o) was chosen and the tests have been carried out at the temperature range of 310-355˚K (0.32 -0.38Tm) under the normalized initial stress $\lceil \frac {\sigma(\varepsilon_{\circ})}{E(T)} \rfloor$ rnage of $7.26\times10^{-4}-8.77\times10^{-4}(48-60MPa)$.
Most of the tests has stopped after the strain $(\varepsilon-\varepsilon_{\cric})$ of 10% which is the observed maximum value of the primary creep strain.
To see the dependence of the primary creep activation energy on stress and strain, creep rates are plotted against the inverse of the absolute temperature for different stresses and strains. The activation energy $Q_{slope}$ obtained in this way is increased with strain under constant stress and decreasing stress under constant strain.
For the varification of the previously mentioned activation energy values temperature cycling technique are used to get. The activation energy $Q_{slope}$ and those values $Q_{TC}$ obtained by the temperature cycling method also have same tendency with stress and strain. However, the $Q_{TC}$ are known to be much higher than $Q_{slope}$.
The effective stresses are measured for various stresses and strains to see if there is any possible relationship of activation energy with the effective stress ($Q_c = Q_o - eV^{\ast}$, where $V^{\ast}$ is $b^2 l^{\ast}$).
Using Qc and σe, the activation length, $1^{\ast}$ is calculated and these $1^{\ast}$ values are linearly proportional to inverse of the effective stress.
Stress differential tests show that the creep rate is controlled by the mobile dislocation density.
From the experimental results and their analized facts, one may conclude that the deformation of primary creep of commercially pure aluminum is known to be controlled by the dislocation glide mechanism.
