The addition reaction of hydrogen bromide to chlorotrifluoroethylene was investigated in the temperature range 88-117℃ using granular activated charcoal as catalyst.
The experiments were performed in a stainless steel recycle reactor at approximately atmospheric pressure.
The temperature dependence of the reaction and the activation energy were determined from measurements covering the temperature range 88 - 117℃.
Experiments with catalyst particles of different sizes confirmed that diffusional limitation was negligible in the catalyst particles.
All reaction rate data were well correlated by the following reaction rate model.
$r=1.63\times10^8\exp(-12430/RT) C_a C_b$
