Performances of extractive regeneration of spent active carbon bed which had adsorbed mercuric chloride were studied. After the appropriate states were obtained in the adsorption process, desorption process was performed with distilled water as solvent. Temperature, solvent flow rate, the amount of mercury adsorbed, the type of active carbon, and the degree of saturation were variables in the studies of desorption processes.
Elution curves and regeneration curves as function of time were constructed for each case. The results showed that increases in temperature and the initial amount of mercury adsorbed had a good effect on the performances. U. S. carbon was much superior to Korean carbon in the results of desorption.
All the results were compared with the equation of which
$c(L, t) = c(L,o) (\frac{vt}{\alpha L}+1)^{\frac{1}{\beta}}$
had been derived theoretically. This equation could be applied to all the results under the conditions in which the resistances of external diffusion was neglected, and enable them to be discussed quantitatively.
$c(L, t) = c(L,o) (\frac{vt}{\alpha L}+1)^{\frac{1}{\beta}}$
