The anionic polymerization of $\epsilon$-Caprolactam with N,N' - adipyl-bis-$\epsilon$-caprolactam as an initiator and potassium hydroxide as a catalyst was studied under a variety of condition. It was found that concentration of catalyst and initiator was 4.2 and 1.6 mole%, and polymerization temperature of 130℃ was the optimum condition.
The intrinsic viscosity and molecular weight of the obtained polymer was over 0.9 dl/g and 11,000.
The polymerization was carried out in the presence of N-acyl-$\epsilon$-caprolactam as an initiator, it was observed that the order of relative reactivity was as follows.
N,N'-adipyl-$\epsilon$-caprolactam$\ge$2.N-benzoyl-$\epsilon$-caprolactam$\ge$2.N-acetyl-$\epsilon$-caprolactam.
In general it was also observed that the intrinsic viscosity and yield of conversion was increased as an increasing of concentration of catalyst and initiator.
$\epsilon$-Caprolactam 의 음이온 중합은 개시제로 N,N'-Adipyl-$\epsilon$-Caprolactam 과 촉매로 KOH 를 사용하여 여러 조건에서 중합시킨 결과 개시제와 촉매의 농도가 각각 1.6 과 4.2 mole% 이고 중합온도 130℃ 중합시간 1.5-3 시간이 여러실험 조건에서 가장 최적 조건이었다. 얻어진 중합체의 고유점성도는 0.9 dl/g 이고 분자량이 11,000 정도며 중합체의 융점은 219℃ 였다.
이 결과를 N,N'-Adipyl-$\epsilon$-Caprolactam 대신 N-Acetyl-$\epsilon$-Caprolactam, N-Benzoyl-$\epsilon$-Caprolactam 을 각각 개시제로 사용 하였을때 개시제의 효과는 N,N'-Adipyl-$\epsilon$-Caprolactam$\ge$2 N-Benzoyl-$\epsilon$-Caprolactam$\ge$2 N-Acetyl-$\epsilon$-Caprolactam 의 순서로 감소하였다.
$\epsilon$-Caprolactam 을 N,N'-Adipyl-$\epsilon$-Caprolactam -KOH 를 사용하여 중합시킨 결과 개시제와 촉매의 농도 증가에 따라 중합체 분자량과 중합 변화율은 증가하였다.
