Results of recent studies in nonlinear dynamics are briefly reviewed and two nonlinear systems have been experimentally studied and discussed : A KDP crystal driven by external oscillating field near ferroelectric transition and a coupled nonlinear electronic oscillator. We have been able to observe most of the theoretically predicted nonlinear transitions in the above two systems.
Though the phase locking and the quasiperiodicity routes to chaos were the characteristic nonlinear transition observed in KDP crystal, period doubling cascades and intermittencies were also easily observed. Nonlinear transitions in KDP crystal are attributed to the nonlinear couplings between the polarization modes and the shear modes. Those phenomena were qualitatively explained by the coupled motions in Landau potential.
We have first succeeded to observe the type-Il intermittency in a coupled nonlinear oscillator circuit. The experimental data such as time sequences, Poincare sections, return maps and the average lengths of the laminar periods are in good agreement with the theoretical results of simple standard models.
비선형계에서 나타나는 여러 가지 현상들과 그에 관한 최신 이론을 정리하고 KDP 결정과 비선형 결합진동자에서 나타나는 비선형현상들에 대하여 실험으로 연구하였다.
KDP 결정에서 나타나는 비선형현상은 모드로킹과 준주기상태로부터 혼돈에 이르는 유형이 특징적이며, 주기배가분지 현상이나 intermittency 도 실현되었다. KDP의 강유전체상전이 온도 부근에서 그 효과가 큰 전단응력 모드와 분극모드들이 외부장과 서로 결합되어 나타나는 때문으로 해석된다.
또 우리는 비선형 결합진동회로에서 처음으로 제2형 intermittency 를 관측하였으며, Poincare 단면 return map 과 laminar 상태의 평균주기 등이 잘 알려진 이론적 모델과 일치하였다.
