Because of increasing awareness and concerns regarding the environment, Korean firms have been faced with the need to establish an environmental management system. Thus, the Korean government has devel-oped a variety of policies and support measures to encourage environmental management in firms; however, these policies have not included a specific solution for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to pro-mote environmental innovation with limited resources and circumstances. Additionally, research on the rela-tionship between environmental management system elements and environmental innovation in Korea is insufficient; previous research has focused only on empirical studies examining the concept and scope of environmental management. This study provides significant results regarding elements related to environ-mental innovation by correlating analysis and logistic regression analysis. Further investigation identifies the relative effects of environmental innovation by performing moderated regression analysis on government support. In addition, the implications and limitations of this study are included. Ultimately, the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between environmental management system elements and envi-ronmental innovations targeting SMEs compared with large firms in the manufacturing industry. We also explore Korean environmental innovations and consider their economic profitability and environmental sus-tainability by analyzing the moderating effects of government support of environmental management sys-tem elements and environmental innovations.
오늘날, 대내외적으로 환경에 대한 관심도가 증가하고 환경의식 또한 높아짐으로 인하여 국내 기업들로 하여금 환경경영체제 구축의 필요성을 느끼게 하고 있다. 이에 한국 정부 역시 기업들에게 환경경영을 독려하기 위해 다양한 지원과 정책을 내놓고 있지만, 비교적 열악하고 제한된 자원을 가진 국내 중소기업의 환경적 혁신을 촉진시킬 수 있는 구체적인 방안을 내놓지 못하고 있다. 또한, 선행연구들도 환경경영의 개념과 범위에 대한 연구와 기업의 환경이미지 구축, 경제적 성과 향상 등에 대한 실증적 연구는 이루어졌지만, 아직 국내의 환경경영체제를 구축하는 요소와 환경적 혁신의 상응관계에 대한 연구는 미흡하다고 할 수 있다. 그래서 본 연구는 먼저 상관관계 분석과 로지스틱 회귀분석을 통하여 환경적 혁신과 관련된 요소들 사이에서 유의미한 결론을 도출하였다. 그리고 관련된 요소들 중 정부의 지원을 조절변수로 두고 조절회귀분석을 통하여 다른 요소들과 환경적 혁신 사이에서 어떤 영향을 미치는지 분석하여 국내 기업이 환경경영을 하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 요소에 대해 연구해보고자 하였다. 또한 연구를 진행하면서 겪은 한계점과 연구를 통하여 얻은 시사점에 대해서도 언급하였다.
결국 이 페이퍼의 목적은 제조업 중심 중소기업들을 대상으로 대기업과 비교하여 환경경영체제를 구축하는 요소와 환경적 혁신에 대한 상응관계를 파악하고, 더불어 그 요소들과 환경적 혁신 사이에서 정부지원의 조절효과를 알아봄으로써 고려해야 할 요소에 초점을 맞추어 경제적 수익성과 환경적 지속가능성을 동시에 고려할 수 있는 환경경영의 체제를 연구하고자 함에 있다.
