We show how the negative component of a review can lead to a positive evaluation of a product. We propose that a two-sided review, which consists of positive and negative information about a product, can be perceived as more credible (i.e., the viewer is less suspicious that it is an ad) than a one-sided review that consists of only positive information, and thus leads to more positive attitudes toward reviewers and product evalua-tions. Furthermore, we demonstrate that it is the presence of negative information in a review rather than the seriousness (i.e., intensity) of the negative information that affects consumers’ suspicion about a review.
본 연구는 한 후기 내의 부정적이 내용이 제품의 긍정적인 평가를 일으키는 상황에 대해 살펴보았다. 제품에 대해 긍정적인 내용뿐 아니라 부정적인 내용을 포함하는 양면적 후기가 긍정적 내용만을 포함하는 일면적 후기보다 더욱 신뢰를 준다고, 즉 덜 광고성 후기라고 인지될 수 있으므로 후기 작성자 및 제품에 대해 더욱 긍정적인 평가를 불러 일으킨다는 것을 밝혔다. 또한, 후기 내의 부정적인 내용의 정도보다 부정적인 내용의 유무가 소비자들의 광고성 후기 의심 여부에 영향을 끼치는 것을 확인하였다.
