A growing body of consumer research suggests importance of sharing experiences in bonding and enjoyment. Then, what types of experience should we share to feel greater bonding and enjoyment: cognitive experience or emotional experience? Three studies compare the impact of emotion-sharing experiences with that of cognition-sharing experiences on bonding and enjoyment. The results show that (1) emotion-sharing experiences, relative to cognition-sharing experiences, lead to greater bonding and enjoyment and (2) this is because people who share emotions (vs. cognition) feel more similar with each other.
