A life - evaluation method of components with residual stresses under out - of - phase bending and torsional fatigue loading was developed. Tests were performed for SM45C which was heat - treated (tempered at 820℃ during 1 hour after machining).
Multiaxial fatigue tests were performed at 90˚ out - of - phase bending and torsion with and without compressive residual stresses produced by shot - peening process. From the experiment, it was found that the evaluation method represent the effect of residual stresses.
We can predict the fatigue life by applying this life - evaluation method to fatigue design of machine components with residual stresses.
