The equations of stress and strain energy density in the protective oxide layer under external loading are induced for simplified model. FEM analysis is performed to verify these equations.
Based upon the concept of strain energy, failure conditions of the protective oxide layer under thermal or mechanical loading are induced.
Spalling process of the protective oxide layer during cooling are studied. The fraction of the oxide layer spalled is induced under temperature drop. Using this results, the cyclic oxidation behavior is modeled to analysis spalling process of the oxide layer under thermal cycling.
