Finite element analysis of a viscoplastic solid subjected to dynamic loading under plane strain condition is performed. Central difference scheme is employed for time stepping algorithm, and the so-called tangent modulus method is used for stress recovery. Isotropic hardening/softening is chosen for the constitutive model.
The shear band localization is observed for a softening rectangular block under uniform compression, which is in good agreement with the result reported earlier, and the stability of shear band solution is numerically demonstrated through perturbation of imperfection.
