This thesis is concerned with the application of concatenated coding to spread-spectrum communication networks in which the multiple-access capability is obtained through the use of frequency-hopped modulation with randomly chosen hopping pattern. The concatenated scheme we consider in this thesis uses an inner code to detect errors or to correct errors during the transmitting/receiving process. When errors are detected by the inner code, every symbols of the corresponding inner code is erased. Reed-Solomon code is employed as an outer code to correct errors (undetected errors) and the erasures (detected errors) generated by the inner code. The overall block error probabilities are examined to make performance comparisons of several schemes.
In this thesis work, we first compare the performance of four target tracking algorithms in clear environment, and then present a new approach to target tracking in clutter environment.
For performance comparison without clutter, we consider four well-known target tracking algorithms: the CHP, the Moose's, the Viterbi, and the interacting multiple model(IMM) algorithms. Simulation results show that the performances of the IMM and the Viterbi algorithms are better than those of the CHP and Moose's algorithms. During the delay period, namely right after the start of a maneuver, the IMM algorithm provides better estimation than the Viterbi algorithm. However, in other periods, the Viterbi algorithm results in better performance.
Recently, Bar-Shalom proposed the interacting multiple model probabilistic data association filter(IMMPDAF) algorithm using only the position measurements. When the target is not maneuvering, the performance of the algorithm is good. However, when the target is highly maneuvering, the tracking performance of the IMMPDAF is not satisfactory.
An IMMPDAF algorithm that uses both position and radial velocity measurements for a target in clutter environment is presented in this work. The radial velocity measurement reduces the association ambiguity in clutter environment because the radial velocities of a target and clutters differ. The simulation results reveal improvement of the track mean lift and tracking accuracy due to the incorporation of the radial velocity measurement.
