Smartphones enable convenient access to local information, but resolving everyday geographic information needs is still challenging (e.g., checking if a theme park is crowded). Location-based social Q&A aims at bridging this gap by directly tapping into the knowledge of local people. Several popular services include Naver KiN “Here”, LocalMind, and LocalUncle. However, our understanding of location-based social Q&A is limited. In this paper, we investigate Naver KiN “Here” by analyzing the crawled dataset and two supplementary surveys data from 285 mobile users, 1210 users respectively. Our data analysis reveals several unique characteristics of location-based social Q&A: factual questions dominate, askers tended to specify the reference location inaccurately on the map, unique motivators are found (self-efficacy regarding local knowledge, sense of attachment and sense of pride about local community), and answering activities are geographically focused on a few regions which strongly related to their home/work/school. Our main findings reported in the paper have significant implications for the design of location-based social Q&A systems.
인터넷과 스마트폰의 발전은 지역 정보에 대해 매우 쉽게 접근할 수 있도록 만들어주었다. 하지만 우리는 여전히 지역 정보에 대해 갈증을 느끼고 있다. 이러한 지역 정보 습득에 대한 욕구 해소를 위해 위치기반 소셜 Q&A 서비스가 등장하였으며, 많은 사람들이 지역 정보 공유를 위해 활발히 사용하고 있다. 하지만 아직까지 위치기반 소셜 Q&A 서비스에 대한 깊은 연구가 이루어지지 않았다. 본 논문에서는 지역 Q&A 질문 데이터와 설문을 통해 위치기반 소셜 Q&A 서비스 앱, NAVER “지식인 여기”에 대하여 깊이 알아본다. 우리의 본 연구에서 몇 가지 위치기반 소셜 Q&A 서비스의 독특한 특징을 찾아내었다: 1)사실기반의 정보를 묻는 질문이 매우 많다, 2)질문자는 질문할 위치를 지도에 정확하게 찍지는 않는다, 3)위치기반 Q&A 서비스 고유의 참여 동기가 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 보다 나은 위치기반 소셜 Q&A 서비스를 위한 디자인 개선 사항에 대해 알아본다.
