Since Hidden Markov Model is powerful tool to express and analyze hidden state problem which is di-rectly unobservable, it’s applied to many fields such as speech recognition, handwritten recognition or etc. However this model has some drawbacks caused by Markov property. This property enforces state duration probability distribution to geometric distribution and this condition is big constraint condition to apply in real world problem. So to relax this condition many advanced research had been held, and we used one of them called Hidden semi-Markov Model to guarantee minimum duration in two applications. First, we find out duration of spring, fall and winter are getting shorter and duration of summer increased for 25 days based on the daily temperature data of the last 53 years. Secondly, we analyze business cycle in financial market in Korea using daily KOSPI. In this application, Hidden semi-Markov Model actually shows much better per-formance than Hidden Markov model measuring by how similar to human recognition.
은닉 마르코프 모델은 직접 관측되지 않는 은닉 상태를 표현하는 모델로, 학습 및 해석에 강점이 있어 음성 인식, 필기 인식 및 여러 분야에서 사용되고 있다. 하지만 이 모델은 한 상태에 머무르는 시간의 분포가 마르코프 성질에 의해 기하분포로 정해지는데, 이러한 성질이 실제 현상을 분석하기에는 큰 제약조건으로 작용한다. 따라서 이러한 제약조건을 완화하기 위해 여러 연구가 진행되었는데, 대표적으로 은닉 세미 마르코프 모델을 이용하여 두 가지 응용분야에 대해서 적용해보았다. 첫 번째는 일별 기온 데이터를 이용하여 우리나라 계절을 분석해보았고, 그 결과 봄, 가을, 그리고 겨울은 짧아지고 있으며 여름은 길어지고 있는 추세를 보인다. 두 번째는 KOSPI를 이용하여 경기 변화를 분석하였고, 은닉 마르코프 모델보다 은닉 세미 마르코프 모델이 사람들이 일반적인 생각 및 인지와 훨씬 비슷함을 보였다.
