Security document design mainly has been focused on the enhance of security performance by developing advanced security techniques, with little chance to establish independent design discourse due to monopolistic and closed design environment and minority of the involved. This tendency is connected to dissociation of various viewpoints in society, and research direction and relevant domains about security documents.
From the viewpoint of communication theory, security document is a social agreement in the form of omnipresent message, which is created exclusively by limited senders only, and is dispersed in society in which the standardized values are exchanged. From the fundamental environment in using security document, three viewpoints of security documents - essential commodity, integration of technologies, collective identity - were induced. In methodological aspect, the most important attribute required to security document is uniqueness to make security documents can guarantee their authority as an agreement, and security techniques to achieve the uniqueness of document have developed under three generations which divided by emergence of mass printing system and desktop publishing as turning points. And nowadays, function of security documents are facing another environmental evolution - information change through network and unpredictable ripple effect by convergence of different information channels. This tendency calls for independent and systemic approach to design security documents, which includes categorizes and relationship of concepts to be considered in design, with three viewpoints as variation along different contexts of requirements.
In this study, structural aspects of metamodel are defined based on Shannon’s communication model, which presumes sender, receiver, encryption and decryption channel and noise, in concept of major stakeholders(senders and receiver) and elements, and their inherent attribute which can occur security problems. As the output from the interaction among major subjects, representative security incidents and viewpoints were defined. Finally, contrary directions of counteraction against problems were visualized based on two-way symmetric model, as major design issues related to various security problems and requirements.
Through the model, security as a social activity can be conceptualized to represent its inherent uniqueness for preestimation of possible security problems in changing environment, and to derive appropriate security design discourse.
보안제품은 독점적이고 폐쇄적인 디자인 환경, 소수의 종사자 수 등으로 인해, 분야적 특수성에도 불구하고 독자적인 디자인 담론을 구축하지 못하고 다분히 실무적인 디자인 문제 해결에만 연구 초점을 두어 온 경향이 있다. 이는 기존 개념의 보안제품이 가진 독점성과 그 사용 범위의 저변성에 기인한 현상적 특성으로, 결과적인 측면에서는 보안제품이 갖는 다양한 사회적 역할에 대한 관점과, 각각의 관점에 연관된 연구 분야 간의 괴리라는 현상으로 나타나고 있다.
커뮤니케이션 이론의 관점에서 보았을 때, 보안제품은 소수의 발신자에 의해 독점적으로 규정되어, 가치의 교환이 이루어져야 할 집단 전체에 일종의 메시지로 저변화되는 일종의 사회적 약속이다. 이러한 기본 전제를 바탕으로 유추해볼 수 있는 보안제품의 본질적 속성은 저변성과 독점성, 그리고 표상성으로 정의될 수 있으며, 이를 통해 인식론적 측면에서 일상용품으로서의 보안제품과 기술적 집약체로서의 보안제품, 그리고 집단적 정체성으로서의 보안제품이라는 3개 관점이 도출되었다. 또한, 방법적 측면에서 보안제품이 특수성을 획득하는 과정을 3개 세대로 구분하고, 그 분기점으로 각각 국민국가 개념의 등장과 대량인쇄술, 그리고 컴퓨터 기술 발전으로 정의하였다. 이를 바탕으로, 본 연구에서는 향후 추가적인 보안 디자인 연구를 위해 요구되는 개념과 디자인 이슈, 관련 분야를 가시화한 결과물을 메타모델로 규정하였다.
메타모델의 구축과 관련해서는 메타모델에 대한 기본적인 개념적 정의를 바탕으로 커뮤니케이션으로서의 보안제품이 갖는 차별적 특수성, 메타모델 구축과 관련하여 고려되어야 할 차원의 속성을 파악하였다. 그 결과 개념의 군집화, 군집 간의 관계성 수립, 그리고 특수한 디자인 상황에 대해 이루어질 수 있는 변용의 방향성과, 각 변용 유형에 중점적으로 연관된 디자인 이슈가 다음과 같이 도출되었는데, 우선 보안이라는 활동이 갖는 차별성과 관련해서는 비대칭적 순환성과 상반성이, 보안 커뮤니케이션에 관련된 주요 주체와 요소, 즉 구조적 차원에서의 고찰은 Shannon의 커뮤니케이션 모델을 바탕으로 이루어졌으며, 그 결과 최초로 메시지를 만들어내는 발신자로부터 수신자로 가치를 포함한 메시지가 전달되는 일련의 군집화 구조가 제시되었다. 이와 함께 보안과 관련된 주체의 의도와 상반되는 위협을 야기하는 요소를, 발신자와 수신자가 갖는 부적절한 의도로 정의하고, 그 유형을 악의, 간과, 오해로 분류하였다. 한편 각 요소의 특성이 조합되어 일련의 결과물을 만들고, 그 결과가 순환되는 과정을 인과관계라는 개념으로 제시하였으며, 이 중 보안제품의 원인으로는 절차와 하부속성 간의 관계성이, 결과로는 보안제품의 디자인 환경에 대한 관점 또는 보안제품 및 관련자에 부여된 초기역할과, 커뮤니케이션의 결과물로서 발생하는 보안 사고와 그 유형이 제시되었다.
본 연구를 통하여, 보안제품 또는 서비스라는 특수한 영역에서 이루어질 수 있는 디자인 담론의 유형을 개념적으로 가시화하고, 그에 따라 제기될 수 있는 디자인 문제를 다각도에서 예측할 수 있도록 함으로써, 향후 다양한 형태로, 보다 많은 분야에서 요구될 보안 니즈에 유연적으로 대처할 수 있도록 하는 개념적 구조의 틀이 제시될 것으로 기대한다.
