Boiling heat transfer is highly efficient mode of heat dissipation, so many researchers have studied about its performance. Recent studies have shown the effect of nanocoated surface in pure water or using nanofluids to investigate boiling heat transfer coefficient (BHT). Also, many other techniques have been proposed to predict BHT. The influence of surface characteristic (like bubble nucleation site) is important parameter for determining pool boiling characteristic of heated surface. So, this work aims to understand the boiling heat transfer characteristics of SiO2-nanoparticle-coated surface. First, detail consideration of its surface was performed. Its cavity has about 1000 ~ 4000 nm width and about 40 nm depth. It means that cavities are very shallow, so it cannot have effect of bubble nucleation site. Bubbles were not generated easily on the SiO2-nanoparticle-coated surface. Next, according to this work, its surface wettability increased. The superheat on the hydrophilic surface is larger than on the hydrophobic surface, so BHT of the SiO2-nanoparticle-coated surface decreased.
