Boiler design should be designed to maximize thermal efficiency of the system under imposed load requirement and a boiler should be validated for transient operation. And it follows safe load changes and remains in safe condition. If a proper prediction is possible on the transient behavior and transient characteristics of a boiler, one may asses the performance of boiler component, control logics and operation procedures. So, to predict boiler performance is very important and so far, performance prediction models of many type of boilers have been developed.
Circulating fluidized bed(CFB) furnace which can use a variety of low-grade fuels because of high heat capacity and good mixing characteristic in its furnace have turned out to be effective system. There are no many research to predict performance considering total boiler system with water-steam side. Most of performance prediction models have focused on hydrodynamics, chemical reaction, heat transfer mechanism in furnace. So, they do not include the steam side of the CFB boiler. At that, they cannot come up with the coupling between the gas-solid side and steam side. Therefore, this study is aimed to develop a performance prediction model which considers the water-steam side.
In this work, a general modeling method for each side of a circulating fluidized bed boiler is presented. The total model tried to cell approach method to simulate the axial distribution of gas-solid and water-steam. gas-solid side model uses 1.5 dimension core-annulus model to describe the radial distribution of solid particles and chemical reaction and heat transfer in furnace.
Based on the model method, performance prediction is carried out on 1025 t/h CFB boiler. The model for actual boiler is validated by comparing performance prediction model which is presented with actual operation data. The implemented model shows good prediction on major dynamic situation.
The main objective of this study is to implement a performance simulation of large-scale CFB boiler which considers water-steam side, gas-solid side and tube wall side under various transient condition. This study may be used in setting up the operation procedure and ensuring a safe operation. Moreover, the model can be applied to the evaluation of dynamic performance in design-time or to the construction of a simulator for operator training.
