The aim of this study is to evaluate the degree of deliberation of the discussion which take place in portal webpage, by constructing the discussion networks using the massive data collected from the forum site named Daum Agora. This study constructs the discussion networks using the massive data collected from the Agora forum site and evaluates the degree of deliberation. I classify the discussion networks according to structural features like the width and the depth. The structure of the discussion networks were classified by width and depth, according to the number of participants. Width means the number of participants in an online discussion and depth means the number of nested layers in the network. The discussion networks of Type1 have the higher value of results from the model of the previous research in Korea than other networks. This result suggests that this model is valid to evaluate deliberation. I find that the outcome of analysis the data is classified according to genre of the discussion show that political discussion networks are wider and deeper than the other networks. I also construct the discussion network of participants who just read an article and compare the network of active users. Active user network and passive user network is different because the participant’s behavior according to the issue type of discussion issue. In analysis of passive users political discussion is narrower and shallow than the average, while economical discussion is wider and deeper than others. This study suggests that these empirical investigation can understand the condition of the whole discussion networks on online site easily and help develop the deliberative democracy
본 연구는 다음 아고라에서 벌어진 거대한 양의 토론 데이터를 가지고 토론 네트워크의 구조를 만들어 숙의의 정도를 평가해보고자 하였다. 토론 네트워크 구조를 참여자의 규모에 따른 넓이와 글의 계층적 구조에 따른 깊이의 측면으로 나누어 트리 구조를 만들어 측정하였다. 넓이를 가로로 깊이를 세로로 축으로 나누어 두 값이 높은 값을 지니는 1사분면에 위치할 때 숙의에 가장 가까운 구조를 지닌다고 평가하였다. 먼저 1사분면에 위치한 이슈들이 정말 숙의가 잘 일어나고 있는지를 살펴보기 위해 기존의 연구에서 썼던 방식을 가지고 와서 비교해 보았다. 1사분면에 위치한 이슈의 경우 기존의 연구에서 쓰였던 변수의 값이 타 이슈에 비해 높은 값을 나타내면서 이를 통한 분석이 타당함을 보여주었다. 이슈의 장르 별로 구분해 살펴본 결과 정치적 성향을 가진 이슈일수록 더 넓고 높은 토론 구조를 가지고 있음을 보였다. 마지막으로 읽기와 쓰기의 행위를 구분해 각각의 토론 네트워크 구조를 비교해보았다. 이슈의 성향에 따라 읽기와 쓰기의 구조가 서로 다르게 나타나고 있으며 이는 같은 조건하에서라도 사람들이 주제에 따른 다른 행동 패턴을 보이며 이에 대한 연구가 필요함을 보여준다. 이러한 분석의 목적은 온라인 토론 공간에서 벌어지는 전체 토론 양상을 파악하고 나아가 온라인 상의 토론을 활성화 시키는 요인을 분석하여 숙의 민주주의를 발전시키는데 있다.
