Current digital font is still under the traditional paradigm of the times of metal type press. Digital font is usually used for desktop press in this digital era. However, the new way which digital font should progress toward is no longer limited to the desktop press only. Nowadays, e-mail or SMS, and chatting are widely used for mundane communication, but digital font as the main element of these media neutralizes the meanings or intentions that people want to deliver to the others. The user’s senses that become blurred in letters make speakers’ hidden intentions and contexts not graspable. Especially, current literal communication on the Internet environment is not enough to express ideas and feelings properly or to deliver information, and therefore often generates communication errors between communicators, since it makes communicators not to see other’s nonverbal
behavior like facial expressions or gestures. The goal of this study is to build a prototype of Hangul input system that moves in a basic and primitive in real time, and to reveal the interrelation between the moving font and effectiveness of emotional delivery, and ultimately sees the possibility to improve quality of communication fundamentally through usability test.
현재의 디지털 폰트는 주로 데스크톱 출판 인쇄를 위해 사용되고 있는 등 금속활자 시대의 전통적인 패러다임에서 크게 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 하지만 앞으로 디지털 폰트가 나아가야 할 새 방향은 더 이상 데스크톱 출판에만 국한되어있지 않다. 오늘날에는 이메일이나 문자, 채팅이 일상적인 커뮤니케이션의 상당부분을 차지하고 있으나 이러한 매개체들 안에서 디지털 폰트는 사람들이 상대방에게 전달하고자 하는 정보나 의도를 중성적으로 만들어 버린다. 이처럼 문자안에서 흐려지는 사용자의 감각들은 글자 뒤에서 말하는 사람의 숨겨진 의도와 맥락을 파악할 수 없게 한다. 특히 상대방의 감정과 정서를 전달하는 비어문적 행동으로서의 얼굴표정 혹은 제스처 등을 보지 못하는 상태에서의 소통, 즉, 현재의 온라인상에서의 문자적인 소통은 제대로 된 의사표현이나 정보전달, 정서표현을 하는데에 모자람이 있고 이 한계를 통해서 메세지 송신자와 수신자 상호 간에 오해가 생기기 쉽다. 이에 본 연구에서는 실시간 입력이 가능한 움직이는 한글입력 시스템의 프로토타입을 구축하고 글자의 가장 기본적이고도 원시적인 움직임을 통해 글자에 나타나지 않는 인간의 비언어적인 상태와 기본정서를 전달 할 수 있는지 그 상관관계를 알아내려 하였다. 한글을 다룸에 있어서는 한글의 조형원리와 창제원리를 참고하였고 글자의 조형적요소와 시간적요소를 변화시킴으로 인해 사용자의 숨겨진 의도를 전달하게 되어 본질적으로는 커뮤니케이션의 질을 향상시킬 수 있는지 그 가능성을 알아보고자 유저테스트를 실시하여 글자의 움직임에 어떠한 감정이나 감성이 맵핑될 수 있는지를 유추할 수 있었다.
