The major purpose of this study is to explore the effects of regulatory fit between perceived transformational leadership and followers’ regulatory focus on followers’ risk taking behavior and energizing relationship. Based on the theoretical premise that transformational leaders are likely to evoke a promotion focus in followers, this study hypothesizes as the following: (a) as followers perceive transformational leadership, their risk taking behavior will increase, and energizing relationship with their leaders will be more positive, (b) if followers are in chronic promotion (or prevention) focus, the dependent variables will be more positive as they perceive transformational leadership, (c) regulatory fit between perceived transformational leadership and followers’ regulatory focus will enhance subordinates’ risk taking behavior and energizing relationship more than a condition of regulatory non-fit.
The data for this study was collected by a web-based survey on full-time workers in Korea, and the results are provided. At the end of this study, theoretical and practical implications of the findings, limitations and future research required are also discussed.
