In this study, the relationship between internal R&D capability, external R&D collaboration, governmental support and innovation performance were researched, and the focus was on the manufacturing industry. Also, the manufacturing industry was divided into high-technology and low-technology for analyzing the different levels of effectiveness of internal R&D capability and external R&D collaboration. In addition, the effects of governmental support on innovation performance were also researched. Twenty-two manufacturing industries were analyzed by using data from Korean Innovation Survey (KIS). As a result of this study, both internal R&D capability and external R&D collaboration of enterprise were revealed to positively contribute to innovation performance. In high-technology industries, the internal R&D capability is more effective for innovation performance than external R&D collaboration. On the other hand, in low-technology industries, external R&D collaboration is more effective. In addition, governmental support was more effective for the improvement of internal R&D capability in low-technology industries and external R&D collaboration in all industries. Based on the results of the empirical study, interviews were also conducted. The theoretical and practical implications were also reviewed along with those results.
본 연구에서는 제조 산업을 중심으로 내부 R&D 역량, 외부 R&D 협력, 정부 지원과 혁신 성과간의 관계를 연구하였으며, 제조 산업을 High Technology와 Low Technology로 구분하여 내부 R&D 역량과 외부 R&D 협력의 효과성에 대하여 연구하였다. 또한, 정부 지원이 외부 R&D 협력과 내부 R&D 역량에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. 본 연구는 한국기술혁신조사(Korea Innovation Survey, 2008)의 데이터를 활용하여 22개 제조 산업을 대상으로 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 기업의 내부 R&D 역량과 외부 R&D 협력 모두 혁신 성과에 기여하는 것으로 나타났지만, High Technology 산업은 내부 R&D 역량이 혁신 성과에 효과적으로 나타난 반면, Low Technology 산업은 외부 R&D 협력이 효과적으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 정부 지원은 Low Technology 산업의 내부 R&D 역량을 향상시키는데 효과적이며, 전체 제조 산업에 있어 외부 R&D 협력에 효과적인 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 더 나아가, 실증적 연구 결과를 토대로 인터뷰를 수행하였으며, 이를 근거로 이론적, 실무적 시사점을 논하였다.
