Using bond rating change events made by firms belonging to affiliated group, we examine the relationship between network structures and firm value within a group. Consistent with the previous researches of intragroup propping, we find significant relationship between group density and firm value when bond ratings are changed. For up-grade case, both higher density and higher degree of centrality positively affect firm value. However, higher modularity, which refers to the tightness of coupling within business group are negatively related to firm value. Especially chaebol looks similar results with whole sample. Like up-grade case, firms with down-grade show positive relationship with density and firm value. This result might reflect the propping, which is caused by Korean unique ownership structure; chaebol.
